Every single person you see at the gym or at your fitness classes busting out crazy moves like it’s easy? They started from where you are today at some point. Here’s some o the best ways to get started on your fitness journey.

“Everybody has to start somewhere. You have your whole future ahead of you. Perfection doesn’t happen right away.” – Haruki Murakami

That quote is often repeated in the fitness world, and for good reason – it’s totally true. Whether you want a body like Arnie, or to start challenging instagram models for the craziest yoga pose, these classes are a great way to set the foundation for even greater things to come.

Yoga is one of the most popular fitness classes out there thanks to it’s low barrier to entry, health benefits, and the ability to do it just about anywhere. With that in mind, that makes it one of the best classes for fitness beginners of any ability and age – there’s a challenge for everyone to be found in yoga. There’s a host of fantastic fitness studios and classes listed on the MagnaPass timetable so you can’t really go wrong – but we’d especially recommend Dynamic Yoga by Yoga Stef. This is a well balanced class that covers all the fundamental aspects of yoga for anyone new to the practice.

By far the type of class we get the most questions and trepidation about is weights based lifting. Many people are scared they will injure themselves, or are unsure of how to put together a workout. This uncertainty stems from a lack of knowledge about lifting and what you can achieve – so fix that by talking to an expert. Luckily we know a few people where lifting runs through their veins and are more than happy to help. Deft Motion are a strength gym who offer beginners lifting classes which introduce you to the basics in under 30 minutes. Get a taste of lifting without being overwhelmed on your first try by trying one of their classes here.

Rock climbing has exploding in popularity in the last few years as more and more people have discovered what a exhilarating, balanced, and most importantly fun workout it is. If you’re bored of the gym this may be the one for you. The fun challenge element of it means that when we tried it most of the MagnaPass team barely noticed they were even working out. There’s a huge range of amazing introductions to climbing out there but we can personally recommend the Rock Over Climbing induction thanks to their excellent facilities, knowledgable staff, and great atmosphere. A perfect beginners session.

There’s a common belief that pole is only for experts and it’s totally out of reach for “normal people”. We’re here to tell you that’s not true – anyone can do it. Believe us, we’re no experts ourselves but we’ve found ourselves at a few pole sessions! A great workout for core strength and flexibility pole workouts can start as simply as you’d like and obviously evolve into something more challenging as your skills improve. GFF Damian is an award winning pole teachers, and one of our favourite people to work with thanks to his positive can-do attitude. He offers a huge amount of classes aimed at every skill level so book today!

General Fitness

Are you totally unsure of what you want or where to start, but just know you want to be fitter? This is where a personal trainer can come in handy. Put simply, a fitness professional will be able to listen to what you want to achieve, develop a programme tailored to you, and give you a great start towards your goal. Personal Trainer Vicki Mellard has made name for herself by giving clients peace of mind in this area – so why not book into some time with her and get started?

Ultimately the best workout to start with is one that you’re actually willing to go out and do as opposed to sitting at home thinking about it. These classes are a fantastic introduction to a variety of different methods of getting fit; so try some out that you like the sound of them and get started.
