We are definitely up for celebrating National Chocolate Week, especially if we can get our hands on these vegan, gluten free and low sugar healthy chocolate recipes!

Here are some of our favourite ways to gorge on the sweet stuff without cracking open the Dairy Milk (although that sometimes happens too…)

1. Sweet Potato Brownies – GF/V

It sounds a little odd, but we’re in an age where people are making cauliflower rice and courghetti, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that sweet potatoes are the perfect add in for a low GI, gooey, chocolate brownie.

The main ingredients are cacao powder, dates, vanilla, ground almonds and sweet potatoes – and that’s it. Easy. Simple. Tasty.

2. Chickpea Chocolate Cookies – GF

Another alternative add in – chickpeas are used in place of traditional flour to create a different texture. These ‘cookies’ aren’t dunking material, but they hit the sweet spot for that chocolate chip hit. Make sure to sprinkle salt over the top, and try not to eat them all at once.

3. Raw & Vegan Twix Bars

Biscuit base? Check. Caramel centre? Check. Layered with oodles of dark chocolate? Check again. No need to fear the V word here, these bars from the Happy Pear are far more decadent (and taste much better) than your average Twix. Link to original recipe.

4. Tahini & Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is a recipe from one of our local bakers, Pamela (@spamellab). She’s a recipe developer, and often taunts us with ridiculous looking treats… Marketing VP has made the cookies from this recipe before, and can vouch that they are in fact 10/10.

5. Chocolate & Peanut Butter Smoothie Bowls

Chocolate for breakfast? Always. These chocolate and peanut butter smoothie bowls are easy to pack protein and micronutrients into: just add your normal protein and some greens when you blend it. Link to original recipe.

6. Homemade Nutella

The best thing about this Nutella is that there are less than 5 ingredients, and it can be made dairy free easily! Spread it on toast, swirl it in porridge, or eat it with a spoon. We won’t judge.

7. Chocolate Pumpkin Fudge

Chocolate Covered Katie kind of nails all chocolate inspired recipes, but this is a brand new autumn inspired one. It’s paleo, there are only a few ingredients and they’re no bake. Link to original recipe.
